High Definition 24-bit Audio is an advanced way for very discriminating listeners to enjoy listening to music at higher-than-usual quality.
Regular CDs do not deliver the maximum quality which carefully-recorded music could otherwise provide. This is because CD manufacturing requires that the original digital audio be reduced from 24-bit to 16-bit to comply with consumer-grade CD players.
When purchasing Murmurs and Drones in 24-bit format, you will receive a DVD containing all but two of the tracks of the commercial CD. (The two omitted tracks are the very short "reprise" tracks.) This disc will not play in a normal CD player. To play music in 24-bit format, digital files must be streamed from a computer application into a digital-to-analog converter before the music can be heard on a home stereo system.
The advantage in sound quality should more than make up for the extra effort!
Murmurs and Drones was recorded in 24-bit digital with the utmost care taken to maintain the highest quality signal at every step of the signal chain. Ribbon microphones by Royer Labs were employed with Gordon colorless preamps. A-D-A converters were manufactured by Lavry. Mixing compression was done with a Fearne tube compressor. Mastering was done with Cranesong EQ and compressor.
This state-of-the-art recording provides a unique opportunity for me to be able to offer this specialized Audiophile format. Enjoy! |
