Workshop with Celtic Fiddler Jamie Laval September 8, 10:00 AM

(Participants should have a rudimentary knowledge of violin fingering and bowing and be able to play a few simple tunes.)

Celtic fiddle is about making people want to dance. We'll start by learning the generic, stripped down versions of several classic tunes (reels, jigs, strathspeys, hornpipes). As the class progresses we'll add layers of dance-inducing devices into the tunes such as bowing patterns, rhythmic accents, and ornamentation. We'll learn how to practice efficiently for maximum results and how to develop our skills in playing by ear. Sheet music will be passed out at the end of class. We will encourage a fun, supportive learning environment in which no-one will be singled out.
